New Face at South Shields

Dave Abbott joined PG Tankers as Technical Superintendent on the 1st June 2015. He joins the company from the Royal Navy having recently completed 22 years’ service as a Mechanical and Electrical Marine Engineer. He joined the Royal Navy, after studying A levels at college, as an Artificer Apprentice and completed his apprenticeship at HMS Sultan in Gosport passing out with the top awards in his entry. Promoted through the ranks quickly he reached the highest non-commissioned rank of Warrant Officer Class 1.

His varied sea appointments have been serving on aircraft carriers through to Frigates and most recently on board Mine Hunters based in Faslane, Scotland. His last appointment was as the Marine Engineering Officer (MEO) of the Mine Hunter HMS Blyth, the highlight of which was leading his team of engineers and technicians to a highly successful 6 month NATO deployment to the Mediterranean.

Careful planning and a will to “fight through” defects with the on board team allowed HMS Blyth to maintain her operational capability throughout the 6 month period and return safely to her base port. As the MEO his role was comparable to that of the Chief Engineer in the Merchant Navy.
